Anna Vettori, you want to give religious art a sacredness opposing the lack in originality of tradition.
An example for this can be the Mystic Cloth ,a symbolic geometry of triangles and crosses inscribed in a circle. The shroud is the meeting poit of different worlds as a curtain hiding what stands behind it. An enigmatic red curtain falls from the edge of the painting; a curtain which is symbol of fire, love, saving blood. The simplicity ,made deeper by the obstinate pursuit of details, adds a metaphysical meaning to the object. Anna Vettori’s is a painting consciously living estranged from Time, transforming the relationships among the senses and getting near to the contemplative ascesis.
